Additions:
CompactFlash was used by SlimCar to store preferences and playlists in such a way that the files could be edited on any PC and also to boot the PC. A design change has been made and SlimCar no longer utilises CompactFlash - it is quicker to boot from a hard drive and the intention is to set many preferences and options using an Installer. This page is preserved for information only.

Additions:
CompactFlash cards are small, inexpensive flash memory devices. They are commonly used in digital cameras and PDAs. A unique feature of the format is that it is designed to closely approximate the IDE/ATA specification used for hard drives in PCs. With the addition of a cheap interface card (see CF2IDE), you can use a CompactFlash card just like it was a hard drive.
